She smiled up at him. Filthy as he was, covered in blood and dirt, he was the most beautiful thing she’d ever seen. “But I don’t want anything else in the world.”

Unpopular opinion time.
I know that when I read The Hunger Games all I could think about was seeing Katniss pose for Glamour with a bow and her tits about to fall out.
Yes, Jennifer Lawrence is a sexy woman, but am I the only one who sees the promotion for this film as the real world (albeit watered down) Capitol shallowness?
I mean they’re making Hunger Games nail polish. WHAT? NO! STOP!
I realize this is Hollywood, and they’re just out to make money, but I just wish this franchise hadn’t been so quick to the “sex sells” mentality.
The Hunger Games deserves more than superficial promotion and trying to get girls to buy makeup.
It’s bad enough they’re going to go overboard with the love triangle, because they think that’s all young girls should care about.
Never mind the sociopolitical message of these books, just gush over which ”team” you’re on while you apply your capitol color nail polish. Meh.
This photoshoot is literally the opposite of everything that Katniss Everdeen is or stands for, and I know I’ve been vocally anti-movie since the casting began, basically, but this really should be a wake-up call to how little our mainstream media culture (or Lionsgate) understand or care about the message behind the series and, really, are actively attempting to subvert that message by changing the lens through which The Hunger Games is viewed to be more palatable to (our own modern) Capitolesque ideals.
I don’t have any problems with JLaw. Let me state that up front. I have a problem with the people behind Lionsgate.
The thing is, Lionsgate is part of an industry, a large one that deals with making money. And only making money. They have this huge amount of power because of how much influence they have in the media, and they insist on using it to milk as much money as they can. I think the nail polish is pretty cool, a good way to promote the film, and possibly lure in more fans. It would’ve been great to mention how the capitol is all about looks and entertainment, but I’ve seen nothing about them telling us why the capitol is bad and why Katniss is against it through this. It was a potential wasted imo. And water? Please, I can get free water anywhere else, why would I spend money on special Hunger Games water?
Now, this shoot is gorgeous, Jen is gorgeous, the way it’s shot is gorgeous. But it’s promotional for the movie. And the first thing I see? Her chest. I didn’t even realize she was holding a bow for three days. Why? Boobs. Also hair.
Do I want Jen to be covered in mud and bruises in all her shoots? No, of course not. But there could’ve been better ways to promote the messages that the books bring while still marketing their movie. And I’ve seen nothing other than CAPITOL COUTURE BE SNAZZY AND SHINY LIKE US. Yes, let’s stuff ourselves silly and then puke it up to eat more.
Katniss is a doll to the capitol to me right now. I know it’s through no fault of her own. It’s Lionsgate that’s fucking trolling us.
